Potential Spam Warning

Machomedia forums seem to have been hit by a phpbb2 bot posting spam (of which some links to mpeg downloads that install a downloader trojan which is pretty evil to clear (I installed the trojan a few months back to see what it could do)).

Just a warning that if there is a new phpbb2 spam bot out it could inundate these forums too. It appears to target old posts, not the new ones and spam a ton of URLs in each post. I can see posts as far back as 2004 being used in the spam attack on the Macho forums.

I would recommend installing an antispam device to block this bot (something that requires a set amount of time before another post can be submitted). I am pretty confident that would weaken the potency of this bot.

Oh, if you wanted I could develop some code that if it detects rapid posting and the posts all contain similar URLs, that it bans that user and their IP address automatically. Let me know if you need this created (should not take too long).
