Woodman's Xcalibur 1 was a massive million dollar flop. Instead of watching Eufrat and Erika Lightspeed being analized in full glory all we got was a disorganized haze of bodies in a dimly lit dungeon.

Scenes should only be done in the great outdoors or in bright rooms. Lighting always comes before storyline.

Lighting and how it is used or not used during the filming of a scene can matter greatly.

Bad lighting can be a big visual distraction from the action that is trying to be filmed and/or viewed.

I know! Why can't some producers have some common sense and spend some money on lighting?

I am great fan of Evil Angel director Jay Sin, who is of course
best known for his kinky anal-focused style.

But it is not only the content. I appreciate it very much that
Jay Sin's use is lighting is nearly flawless.

When I watch porn from other companies or other directors,
the thing that strikes me most is poor lighting. There are
even much-praised Jules Jordan DVDs that are rather weak
when it comes to lighting; for example poorly-lit DP shots.

Most of Dorcel's content is unwatchable because of this.

I don't think this is about money spent on lighting. Sometimes a few shaddows are added to make the scene more moody. When done correctly its ok, but normally not. An even shoot should just light the cast for example.

Talking about Assman production values could indeed have been much better, but watching JYL at work beeeeeaming his girls is just priceless!
I agree, however, that bad lighting can kill a lot. The much adoed old Private always released a lot of badly lighted scenes, especially dungeons.
Its not only a question of money but mainly of craft. However, seems JYL at his beginnings had no money left for light, too. Only with him I dont mind that!
